The NFL Controversy

NFL Players Chose to Kneel, Link Arms, or Sit in The Locker Room During National Anthem

By now many Americans have heard about the recent controversy surrounding the NFL, where on Sunday (9/24/17) entire teams chose to protest the national anthem. Almost all the players chose to either lock arms, kneel, or just sit in the locker room during the national anthem. This was a direct response to President Donald J Trump’s speech last week where he said that players should be fired for kneeling during the national anthem. In case you missed it here is a link to a clip from Trump’s speech:

The Future of the NFL

The big news that broke today is that the Steeler’s owner Art Rooney II is already beginning to regret this decision. ABC reports that the players intend to “stay out of the business of making political statements by not taking the field.” But teams standing and placing their hand on their heart during the national anthem is the norm, and by not doing that they were making a political statement. They are now trying to back-peddle after backlash from fans and patriots by claiming they we’re not boycotting the anthem and were not trying to make a political statement. But the question remains, why did the entire team break the norm and disrespect the anthem days after Trump’s speech if they were not trying to make a political statement. This is a PR stunt to try and regain the fans they have lost after their horrible decision.

Steeler’s Player Alejandro Villanueva Apologizes for Standing During the National Anthem

ABC interviewed Steelers player Alejandro Villanueva who in an interview APOLOGIZED for standing for the national anthem. Villanueva said “I made my teammates look bad, and that is my fault, and my fault only” which is absolutely absurd.  In fact many patriots hit social media and praised him for having the guts to stand for the National Anthem while the whole team protested like Connie McDonald and Tim.

How to Create Change

If you are outraged like most Americans at these NFL protests the best way to show your disapproval is with your wallet! Many Americans are burning NFL gear and tickets, I’m not saying to go burn all the jerseys in your closet but if you are sick of these political games the best way to show your disapproval is with your wallet. Don’t buy any more merchandise or tickets, getting your voice out on social media is also effective but not dumping money into their pockets will have the biggest effect. You can read the full ABC article and listen to Villanueva’s appologie by clicking the link below.

How the American People Feel

A poll is up on showing that an overwhelming majority of Americans believe that the players should stand for the National Anthem. It is a great poll and I urge you to click the link and view it for yourself but Question 6 asks “Do you think NFL players should stand and be respectful during the national anthem?” and 64% voted yes with 24% voting no and 12% unsure
